Blakehurst was an excellent choice for mom
reviewed on: 01/04/2014 by AnonymousWhen my mother told me she wanted to relocate to the Towson area to be near me I knew it was time to look for just the right place. I toured both independent living and assisted living communities in the area. In the end the best of the independent living apartments was at Blakehurst Retirement Community in Towson. It was newer than many and had larger apartments than any others I toured. Time passed and before we knew it my mother had been living there for almost 4 years before her death due to health issues. She never had any complaints about living at Blakehurst and enjoyed playing bridge and attending concerts there as well as walking around the beautiful grounds to check on the many blooming plants. The staff are pretty darn good people and were accommodating when requests were made. When my mother needed some extra help they cared for her like she was their own mother. This made life easier for my mother and my family.
Blakehurst is the Best Retirement in Baltimore County
reviewed on: 10/08/2015 by Jeannie S.Blakehurst Retirement Community in Towson is beautiful with many wonderful amenities. The staff is very helpful and focused on customer service, and the management really has a heart to serve their residents. I also love that there is a restaurant & cafe on site, which is also open to the public. The food is well prepared, American style cuisine & reasonably priced, especially for the upscale look & feel of the place! One of the unique features about Blakehurst is the fitness center, with a great schedule of unique group exercise classes, not found in most gyms, and tailored well to the resident population & health concerns. The gym staffs two fitness professionals who are available for one on one training & their expertise and training background is impressive! If you're looking for a retirement community with all the bells & whistles this is the place!!!
Blakehurst is not what it once was
reviewed on: 09/14/2020 by AnonymousI am not a resident but am a frequent visitor. When my parents entered Blakehurst, I was pleased - I though it the right decision. For the first few years, things went well. Services were provided and the food was typically very good. Care was adequate. There were good attempts in hosting special events. The outdoor grilling was a favorite for many. Fast forward to the last 1-2 years. Food is not edible - really. Anyone want green beans with yellow spots? Food is so bad, the residents are preparing their own meals and throwing out what is provided. This is more stressful in time of COVID. Oh yes, let's talk about that. Residents are free to leave the facility without restriction. BUT, I cannot visit my parents. I cannot enter to even assist them when help is needed. Some residents cannot visit spouses in the medical facilities. How can Blakehurst allow residents to leave and go to dinner, have drinks with friends and interact with the public but then deny family from meeting one and other. The virus will get into Blakehurst from the interaction with the public. Prohibiting family and spouses spending time with one and other is simply heartless. Blakehurst was a good, friendly place that was safe for our aging population. For the initial investment and monthly dues, today it is simply wasteful. Enjoy life. Buy a small home and when care is needed, there are good senior care professionals out there. (Yes, you need to search for the good ones.) Life will be happier, and you can get the care you need. And yes, you can even save a bunch of money!
