They just don't seem to really care...
reviewed on: 03/31/2017 by AnonymousTake it with a grain of salt when someone from their sales staff tells you transporting your loved one to medical appointments will not be an issue. When I was trying to find a facility for my parents, I was really given a rosy picture when I expressed my concerns about my mother getting to her to her various specialists. Granted, they are at Mercy Hospital, which is a considerable distance. Initially, it wasn't a problem. After about three or four years of it, there was suddenly a problem. I complained enough to someone higher up who didn't want to have to hear from me and they continued to transport her. Now they have purchased a new van that they say will not safely accommodate my mother because of her increasing leg rigidity. She is a Parkinson's patient for the love of Pete! She can't be the only one! Why would they purchase a van that is considerably less accommodating than the one they had? My opinion is that they don't want to have to transport so often. They said my only option for her to get to her doctors is for me to pay $400 round trip for an ambulance to take her each time. I do not have that kind of money. I suggested to her nurse that maybe there is something her neurologist could do to tweak her meds and help with her rigidity, I was told that it was a bad idea because 'her declining is to be expected because she is a Parkinson's patient'. I understand that. My mother is not ready to die and I intend t keep her as healthy and comfortable as I can. Four years ago, one of her doctors suggested a peg tube because she had stopped eating. There were staff members at Eden who told me I shouldn't have her get a peg tube because she was nearly 80 and was only going to decline. After a short time, she was back to eating and only using the peg tube to supplement. There are other examples of times there seemed to be very little support when it comes to keeping her comfortable. It really makes me worry about the patients who have no one to advocate for them. It would be far to confusing for her to move her elsewhere. I will just continue to battle on!
