reviewed on: 09/21/2013 by LindaThis is a lovely residence. The staff are very caring and engaged with the residents. Many activities and flexible approach to supporting residents with their interests. They take those interested on field trips. My dad recently went to a Mets' game and had a great time. They really seem to go the extra mile. Also, they treat the residents with respect, not in patronizing manner.
The New Homestead... Not fancy but great staff.
reviewed on: 10/31/2015 by JillI am very impressed with the staff. They are caring and nurturing. I feel that my dad is very safe. The trips that they offer are really good. They go to baseball games and dinner theater.
A smaller, family-run establishment
reviewed on: 04/19/2021 by ADI think overall it's a good facility. It's certainly one of the better ones for the price that we visited. However, in the two years or so we've been there, I haven't been able to be inside that often due to Covid. THe lobby is now run down. It seems like it needs a little more care and attention. I don't think that they're I think they're doing as best as they can. My loved one can be very difficult. But I feel like they need to be much more hands on in making sure laundry gets done and making sure the room gets cleaned. I 'm sure my loved one says nonono and sends them away, but they need ot a little more involved. The staff are so nice. They're very freindly whenever I call or am able to come by. I find them to be very attentive. Everything has been harder since I haven't been able to go in before Covid. I found it was easier to help facilitate getting things done because my loved one trusts me and would allow them to help her more with me around.
New Homestead —Safe & Caring
reviewed on: 10/29/2020 by JoannaI can imagine how hard the process is to find a place for mom or another family member in the times we are in. I highly recommend the New Homestead as a very safe and caring placement in these difficult times. My mother lived at the New Homestead for the last five years of her life. I will be forever grateful for the care she received there. Mom was very well cared for and loved the place. As her needs changed over time the New Homestead was always creative and flexible in providing her with the appropriate continuum of care. New Homestead did an amazing job when Covid hit. They responded fast and with an ongoing diligence in protecting their residents. Mom was kept safe from Covid there in the heart of Queens - Kew Gardens. The New Homestead is a unique place in a great neighborhood where everything is within walking distance. Everything Mom needed was available at the New Homestead but we enjoyed walking around town or going to the parks near by when I visited. The building, a converted historical hotel is small compared to other adult facilities. It’s not overwhelming in size. It has a nice old fashioned homey feel and a really nice garden where she liked to watch the world go by. She had a beautiful private room and enjoyed the bright sunny dining room. She liked the food. The relationships and communication we developed with the staff was excellent. She lived so many good memories there. She had wonderful friends, great caretakers and great times. The activity director is excellent. When they could visit many community members were invited there; entertainers, musicians, school children, art therapists and various religious practitioners. Residents took fabulous day trips to cultural venues. Times do not permit these activities now but excellent care continues.
It's been wonderful so far.
reviewed on: 10/06/2015 by AnonymousIt's been wonderful so far. We have no complaints at all. The meals are a little on the small side, but that's okay, they are good. We are very happy with them. I would give them a four and a half out of five.
