New Homestead good value and wonderful staff
reviewed on: 04/01/2014 by Nancy DMy mom recently moved to the New Homestead. She has dementia and I was concerned that she be in a place where staff understood and were mindful of the needs of people with dementia. The Homestead is in a lovely, charming neighborhood in Kew Gardens easily accessible by train (it's across the street from the train station). It is an old hotel that has been transformed into an adult living facility. There are ongoing renovations, which are needed, but the space has a comfortable homey atmosphere. Meals are served in a large, bright dining room. The individual rooms for residents are clean and bright, and seem well kept. The best thing about the Homestead is the staff. It is clear that it everyone there cares about their job and the residents. Every time I have called, no matter who I talked to, they knew who my mom was (even after she had only been there a day), and on the first day when she was confused and wanted to leave, the manager took the time himself to take a walk with her, talk to her and remind her/explain where she was and why. That kind of attention is invaluable.
Nice Run Community
reviewed on: 10/08/2020 by AnonymousThere are certain things I liked about it. My loved one complains about the food, they say that it is the same thing over and over again. The taste isn't there as well. I'm not sure how often the house cleaners are changing the sheets for my loved one. Celeste is very nice and she is the one who runs the community. Due to COVID we are paying the same amount that we were prior to the pandemic. All my loved one is getting is three meals, sitting in their room, or in the outside garden. It is a good thing they are being cautious on the pandemic in my opinion. Everything is an extra cost. I've been told that the medication is given at 7 pm and then the residents aren't allowed to come out of their rooms. The community is in a very pretty area.
The New Homestead... Not fancy but great staff.
reviewed on: 10/31/2015 by JillI am very impressed with the staff. They are caring and nurturing. I feel that my dad is very safe. The trips that they offer are really good. They go to baseball games and dinner theater.
A great caring place
reviewed on: 07/27/2020 by AnonymousMy mother has been a resident for over 5 years now. I live abroad and they make it easy for me to make sure my mom is taken care of. They have honestly gone above and beyond during this Covid crisis. The owner Stephen helped me advocate and come up with solutions to help her get discharged from the rehabilitation centre after recovering from Covid. It was nearly impossible to get someone in to talk to them with all the regulations. The staff at The Homestead are all lovely..Celeste the case manager is very caring and very honest. It’s clean, bright, friendly and they will try to help in any way.
New Homestead —Safe & Caring
reviewed on: 10/29/2020 by JoannaI can imagine how hard the process is to find a place for mom or another family member in the times we are in. I highly recommend the New Homestead as a very safe and caring placement in these difficult times. My mother lived at the New Homestead for the last five years of her life. I will be forever grateful for the care she received there. Mom was very well cared for and loved the place. As her needs changed over time the New Homestead was always creative and flexible in providing her with the appropriate continuum of care. New Homestead did an amazing job when Covid hit. They responded fast and with an ongoing diligence in protecting their residents. Mom was kept safe from Covid there in the heart of Queens - Kew Gardens. The New Homestead is a unique place in a great neighborhood where everything is within walking distance. Everything Mom needed was available at the New Homestead but we enjoyed walking around town or going to the parks near by when I visited. The building, a converted historical hotel is small compared to other adult facilities. It’s not overwhelming in size. It has a nice old fashioned homey feel and a really nice garden where she liked to watch the world go by. She had a beautiful private room and enjoyed the bright sunny dining room. She liked the food. The relationships and communication we developed with the staff was excellent. She lived so many good memories there. She had wonderful friends, great caretakers and great times. The activity director is excellent. When they could visit many community members were invited there; entertainers, musicians, school children, art therapists and various religious practitioners. Residents took fabulous day trips to cultural venues. Times do not permit these activities now but excellent care continues.
