Seems very nice
reviewed on: 10/11/2013 by EWI toured this place 2 times, once alone, one with my mother. This place opened Fall 2012, so it is very new. They were building an outdoor pool when we visited. It seemed lovely, the staff seemed very good, and the residents we spoke to were very happy there. The apartments are smaller than at some other facilities, but very nice. Like other assisted living facilities, the apartments do not have a full kitchen, only a sink, microwave, and fridge. Unfortunately, the fridge is pretty small (not full height), so the freezer is tiny and instead of putting the fridge on something to make the contents easy to access, it is located on the floor, making it difficult for many seniors who may have trouble bending, stooping, or with balance issues.. There are very limited number of 2 bedroom apartments and they are all rented. We ate there once and the food was okay, but bland. If visitors want to come, there are 2 private dining rooms that are free to reserve, though you pay for the meals. One of the rooms has a full kitchen so you can actually prepare a family meal there. One thing my mother was not so happy about was that visitors must go these rooms--they can not be accommodated in the dining room, as is possible in her current place. This is a minor detail, as if she wanted friends to join with our family, they could come into the private rooms with us. Just something to consider if, say, a granddaughter comes to visit often. Also, since there are only 2 rooms, holidays and weekends might book up, though they told us that hasn't happened (but they were only at 47% capacity when we visited). The activity calendar looked interesting, but there is no transportation to doctors as there is a medical building right next door and doctors come to the place. There are limited shopping trips, but other nice events, including weekly library trips, and some trips to restaurants, stores, and shows. There are also in-house special events like concerts. As always in these places, there are abundant card-playing and movie-watching opportunities. The activities director was very eager for suggestions of activities from residents. For other transportation options, White Plains has an interesting deal with the county. For trips within White Plains, instead of needing to call and schedule rides with the county senior bus service, you can just call a designated taxi service and pay the same $4.00 per ride--much easier than the experience of calling the "Beeline."

reviewed on: 02/23/2019 by Zavis and Milo ZavodniTo Whom it may Concern Our mother Mila Zavodni, now 103 years old, has been a level 2 resident of the Bristal Assisted Living Facility in White Plains since November of 2017. During those 14 months, my brother Milo and I (he lives in Maine, I live in Utah) have paid her regular visits, usually lasting for 5- 7 days each time, and have consequently had many occasions to observe the staff and the operations at the facility. We find many of the employees to be hard working, friendly, and caring of the residents. They appear to take pride in their work and a number of them go "above and beyond the call of duty” in their interactions with the residents. And, of course, our mother has various favorites, where her face lights up when they enter her room. We continue to be pleased that the facility is kept neat, clean, and has an “up-to-date feel” about it. The decorations during the various holidays always add to the welcoming and homey ambiance. The house-keeping staff maintains our mother’s room and the common areas fresh and clean. The maintenance staff does a good job of keeping things running smoothly and efficiently, and responds quickly to requests for repairs or modifications. The front desk is well managed and access to the facility is properly controlled but in a friendly manner; we are especially happy to note that the sign-in/sign-out procedures are strictly enforced. While not always responding in the quick space of time that our mother hopes for, the staff is professional and ready to help. Nursing care is properly administered to satisfy her needs. Drugs appear to be given regularly and in proper dosages. The food is well prepared with a wide choice to cater to every appetite. (We do sometimes wonder if such an extensive selection at meals is really necessary.) Our mother is too weak to participate in a broad array of extracurricular activities, but we sense that these are well-chosen, quite diversified, and appreciated by many of the more active residents. The senior staff have proven to be very understanding of the residents' needs and stand ready to cater to special requests of family members and visitors. The Bristal has done a good job of communicating any unusual events to us, as concerned parties of a resident. Offers peace of mind
reviewed on: 02/12/2019 by AnonymousI can wholly recommend the Bristal White Plains for the excellent caring environment it has provided both for my father, at 96 still living independently, and my mother, who benefited from the Reflections memory care unit during her final years. As I do not live nearby, it has given much peace of mind between visits to know they are so well supported.

reviewed on: 04/06/2015 by Anne GreenbergMy mom has lived at the Bristal in White Plains for almost 2 months now. The staff is very helpful and courteous. The building is cheerful and spotless. My Mom's room is perfect for her. The bathroom set up is much safer than we had for her at home. She has been participating in bingo and the knitting club. Hopefully now that the weather is getting better she will venture out. There has been an issue in the dinning room. She feels it takes too long to order and be served and often the wrong meal is served. I was also concerned that the staff was not familiar with at home INR testing for her Coumadin. We did work it out quickly though. I am very happy with the Bristal and would recommend it.

There are a lot of people there but they don't seem to do a lot, for extra services you have to pay extra. You have to pay extra for everything. I feel like it's a beautiful place but I feel like it's a shell that's all it is is a beautiful shell. The activities seem like more than there really are. They do have some different things to do, but not what it looked like at first glance. They say they have a five star chef but it really is like cafeteria food. They have a new director, who hasn't been there long so maybe he will be able to make some improvments. The people are friendly and very nice. You are not allowed to have a motorized wheelchair.
