Assisted Living Rules and Regulations in North Carolina

Many state regulatory agencies help consumers make educated decisions in senior care by providing public access to assisted living records. However, access to these records depends on the state in which the facility is located. Learn more about finding assisted living records in North Carolina.

Public Records and License Status

North Carolina provides high transparency and accessibility to consumers looking for assisted living care. To find a list of licensed communities go to the North Carolina Adult Care Licensure site. To see if a community has had documented issues go to North Carolina’s Listing of Facilities with Penalties site. Another directory of communities can be found on the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation site with violation information found on the Facility Inspections, Ratings and Penalties page.

Violations and Resident Protection

While North Carolina does provide an updated and accurate list of licensed assisted living communities online, the information is not searchable. However, their list of violations, inspections, survey results and complaints is searchable and located in the same location as the list of licensed communities.

Additionally, North Carolina provides the capacity of each facility. They do not provide information about special care licenses, payment types accepted at each facility, contact information for the community or pricing of the facility.

North Carolina performs inspections every 24 months and can fine facilities for violations.
