Community Reviews

We Like It and It's Close

reviewed on: 12/20/2016 by Anonymous

This is a wonderful community and we really like it, especially since it is 15 minutes away from our home. We are able to bring my mother-in-law home for the holidays. She enjoys the meals and activities they offer daily. She is doing very well and the staff are learning to do better. A couple do very good, the new ones are learning and the others know how to improve. it is a really clean community and her room is always clean too. She needed her own little spot and they have fulfilled it.

Really Pleased

reviewed on: 07/25/2013 by Randy Yates

I've been real pleased with it. I'm not really familiar with what activites they're doing. I haven't really witnessed it. I think they could beef that up more but it's a memory care unit so it's full job just to get them together and get them to eat. It's very close to home so it's really fit in well. For the money it's definitely something that's worthwhile. You hate for anybody's parents to not be able to stay at home but when you get to a certain point and need certain care, you just can't do it anymore. We went as far as we could go. I would recommend North Pointe.

An Eight Day Nightmare

reviewed on: 06/21/2017 by Right is right and wrong is wrong

My experience with North Pointe of Mayodan was a horrific experience. Day 1:, upon arrival, the room was not ready as we had to remove old rickety furniture and clean the bathroom prior to setting it up. Day 2: I was called to administer my husband's medications myself throughout the day because no one thought to get his meds delivered prior to our arrival. Days 3-5: My husband complained to the point of anger about the CNA's being outside smoking when he needed them and the loudness of the laundry room (across from his room) which did laundry all night long. Day 6 & 7: My loved one began having terrible hallucinations causing panic and danger of elopement which he had only had previously when he had forgot or skipped his meds. At the management's request, (not ours) North Pointe's Crisis team intervened, but I have never been given or told what their actions revealed. So my husband was sent to the Emergency Room 30 miles away. Of course he was returned to North Pointe the following day after being given his medications. Day 8: More hallucinations caused my husband to run across the street to the high school where he sought help from a sheriff he saw sitting in his car. He was taken back to North Pointe by the Sheriff where he was taken again to the Emergency Room. My husband has now been through a thorough psych evaluation and is doing wonderfully now, because his medications are given properly. He is in a wonderful facility which is NOT North Pointe of Mayodan. I don't know what those folks did or did not do, but they did not properly take care of my husband. We paid $3200 for the services of this facility, for 2 days in April and the whole month of May. After the horrific treatment resulting in my husband not returning to North Pointe, I requested a full refund as I believe we paid for services that were never rendered. The owner, Mr. Kenny Burrow sent me one prorated check, but failed to refund the full amount. Somehow, he thinks he is justified and it is okay to gauge people when they are struggling. Currently North Pointe still owes us $877.39. Today Mr. Burrow emailed that he would send me a refund for one more day, but if I wanted anything more to contact his attorney, which my attorney will be doing asap. These people knew my husband had Frontotemporal Dementia when we met with them the first time. If they were not set up to handle one with this type of cognitive thinking issues, they could have simply said so. All I ask was for a refund of money paid to North Pointe of Mayodan. This does not even address the thousands of dollars we now must pay for 2 trips in three days to the ER. Think about these things before you trust your loved one or your money to the management of North Pointe of Mayodan. I will post here again to keep others abreast of the difficulties of getting our money back for services not rendered. One last item, I almost forgot....Last week, we received an invoice from North Pointe's Pharmacy showing that my husband's medications were ordered and filled through June 1, when he left there on May 8th, not to return. I am praying those charges are removed from our account.
