Wister is a town in Le Flore County, Oklahoma, United States. It is part of the Fort Smith, Arkansas-Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,002 at the 2000 census. Wister was named for Gutman G. Wister, an official of the Choctaw, Oklahoma and Gulf Railroad and the father of noted writer Owen Wister.
