Long time resident
reviewed on: 04/04/2020 by Genelle's daughterMy mother has lived at Cedar Village for almost 10 years, first in Assisted Living, and now in Memory Care, as her dementia has progressed. The social integration and cognitive stimulation at this facility has been amazing. The activities have always been fun and engaging. Even now, in the end-stages, she engages in some of these activities. The compassionate, personal connection that the direct caregivers have with her has been amazing. The attitude of acceptance of the residents' behavior and their support of them provides a calm and relaxed atmosphere. The place is always clean, but I have to say that while there is no smell of urine in Memory Care, the air is always heavy with a cloying, clinging, fruity-coconutty smell, that pervades one's hair and clothing within a few minutes. The food had been good and has been average, as we've seen a few management companies come and go. In Memory care, the meals are all appropriate for this population. Due to Mom's difficulties with maintaining weight, the staff has gone over and above with monitoring her food, providing nutritious shakes, and encouraging hydration. This has been an excellent part of her care, and we are very appreciative of this support.
Mom's happy—I'm not. I want better for her.
reviewed on: 06/29/2016 by AnonymousMom has been her for a couple of years. She is happy here, but I'm disappointed. The care they say they give is different than the care that is actually given. Mom's room is supposed to be cleaned daily, it's cleaned thoroughly once per week. Otherwise, it's hit or miss. Her floor doesn't seem to be swept or mopped except for that one day. The bathroom is supposed to be checked and cleaned, if needed, every shift—three times per day. It might happen once per day. Things are always missing from her room, even if they consider it trash, she or I should be informed that it's taken. They have quarterly service reviews, but rarely anything I say in those reviews is acted upon. The food—well, it's been ok, but on my last visit it was terrible. It's very inconsistent. Most of the food is bland, but then some is way too salty, vegetables are mushy and overcooked, chicken was very dry. The menu has two options, but only one dessert. Desserts seem to be good. The activities used to be great, but now they are so-so. Mom plays more bingo than does anything else. I'm sad, because I wanted this to be her final home, but it looks like I'll be looking elsewhere.
The room that we were shown...
reviewed on: 06/26/2013 by A Place For Mom CustomerThe room that we were shown in the memory care unit was only big enough to accommodate a twin bed and a chair. Not much bigger than a walk-in closet. Seemed spendy. People were very nice.
Review of Cedar Village
reviewed on: 09/12/2018 by AnonymousMy husband lived for 5 years in AL and 2 months ago transferred to the Memory Care part. I have been well satisfied with this facility for as long as he has been living there. Any issues that concerned me were settled quickly and to my satisfaction. Almost immediately care givers and med aides were aware of his quirks and adapted to him. I am a retired RN so I have high standards for his care and Cedar Village meets and exceeds those expectations.
