The non believer

reviewed on: 02/16/2021 by Micki T

T took some time convincing my Mother to move into the residents. However, from day one, August 2020) she has loved it. She has become a social butterfly, playing bingo, and meeting new people. She loves the food and is just a new person. We, her children , are delighted ! No more worries. It is the best thing we ever did. It sure does make this chapter of her life enjoyable.

Home Away From Home

They took us on a nice tour and answered all of our questions. We decided to move our loved one here from a different independent facility. The move-in process was very good. We used a moving company they suggested to us, and the moving company was fantastic. By the time we got our loved one there in our car, they had her apartment all set up, which was very nice. That helped her a lot. She was tired and was able to lie down right away. She has dementia and experienced some confusion at first. I feel like they need to have a buddy system for people just moving in, someone to work with new residents for several days so they're aware of everything there. They did introduce her to one woman, but then we never saw her again. I think a more prolonged buddy system would help new residents. The staff were good. They looked out for our loved one because they knew she was confused at times. If she wasn't down to dinner, they sent someone down to her apartment to get her.

Wished I Would Have Gone Sooner

I would highly recommend this community to friends. The room my loved one is in and doesn't have a balcony, but they have them available. The food is ok according to my loved one. The activities included trips, entertainment come in to the community, the family would be invited to some of the events. My loved one joined a club called the Manhattan Club. My loved one wishes he would have gone there sooner.

I would recommend it for a loved one!

From our understanding the food is good and they are starting to slowly bring back the activities. The facility is very nice, everyone is always very friendly when you walk in. The place is decorated really nice and it is just a pleasant place to be. It also has good value for the money.

Nice place

The apartment space is nice - my parents are in a one bedroom unit and it is adequate. The weekly housekeeping is fair - doesn't seem to include dusting. The meals are fair as well. When they moved in, I would have rated them lower. Fortunately, alternate selections are now offered at every meal in case you don't like what's on the menu. That was a huge improvement. I've eaten with them several times and feel the protein content of the meals should be increased. Activities have been good although they describe some behavior at group gatherings that I can only describe as "high school - like". However, most staff and residents are lovely people. I guess no matter how old we get, there will always be some drama in situations where we congregate. The situation with the locked exterior doors has changed several times lately. That, too, has improved with the pushback to 9 pm. However, the residents should have a way to access the main entrance after hours like a key fob. Overall, the monthly cost seems high for the package.
