Memory care us unit is unde...
reviewed on: 06/01/2013 by A Place For Mom CustomerMemory care us unit is under construction and will be ready in a week or so. The entire assisted living has a large component of people with varying levels of dementia so that might be an option and is likely the front door to the designated memory care. The sales person provided most of the basic information with no passion for what she was doing and was missing some key information such as turn-over and her training information was just basic. The rooms were great - quite large and had designated living areas which is a plus and a minus as dementia does not need privacy for the most part. The shared rooms have a very nice shared living space and bathroom and some have completely private bedrooms (for extra cost. There is no way to compare costs as all is based on level of care which depends on a point system that could not be explained. The director, Von, appeared warm and friendly on our brief meeting. I spoke with one of the staff (a med aide who is moving into a supervisory role in the new memory care community. He said he had been there for four years and that since purchase by Elmcroft, his work situation is wonderful and that he comes to work with a smile every day. This was completely unsolicited and appeared genuine. The nursing director was also very personable and said she was willing to answer any questions but she was on the run. She, too, appeared genuine and has been in nursing for many years. None of the management, including the nursing director, had been with the company form more than a couple of years but this may have had more to do with the fact of the fairly recent purchase by Elmcroft than anything more concerning. In general, I did not get a good feel but I think this was mostly based on the sales manager's bland presentation. She spoke to people who lived in the community but I never heard her call anyone by name and so no really warmth from her. This community is probably worth a second look at a later time but would need deep digging to determine if it was a good option for us.
