Very friendly but slow response time to call lights
reviewed on: 08/28/2013 by TeresaThey took really long with the call lights, sometimes it would take so long that peopel wouldn't even bother. There was a lot I liked about CLark but that was the one thing I didn't like about them. part of the problem is its a big place and theres only so many staff members for a large place so you might be in one end of the hallway but there's no one around. They didn't hurry either, you may need to go to the bathroom now but they wouldn't come help until it worked for them. That never really changed but when I complained about something else they were really conscientious about making sure to remember it. I did like that they had a nice variety as far as the menu goes, they were very friendly and they would encourage peopel that were there to come out to round tables to eat in small groups and get to know each other and the aids would look out for them out there. They found out what my moms interests were and found her things to do.

reviewed on: 12/02/2015 by Jack KearneyClark at Keller Lake is the choice we made for my wife Marie, With her safety a major concern in our early pursuit of help for her we were blessed in that the Clark Family program was a lot more than we expected. The overall is great and we look forward to her having and receiving the best of care and concern. The above rating speaks for itself.
Little personal connection
reviewed on: 03/30/2021 by Margaret JMy mother has lived at Clark in Independent Living for over a year. We're very disappointed because there Isn't a staff member anywhere who really knows anything about my mom's interests or her family. It does not feel like "family" there. Covid played a part, but after being mostly confined to her room, she expected to be able to visit with a few of her own family members after the residents were fully vaccinated. Even when vaccinated, the requirements for visiting a resident were rigid...an appointment made well in advance, a Covid test for $30, safety glasses and mask (not regular glasses). Penalties were strict for "failure to adhere" to the rules. The visitor would be banned from visiting their loved one for three weeks after the first offense and with "visitation rights being terminated on a second offense". -So sad and hard on a resident's mental health.
Disappointed in this team...
reviewed on: 11/23/2018 by AnonymousTotally agree with Sandy the first reviewer! Sandy -Your words captured our experience completely with our Mom. After 6 years living at Clark, no sympathy card was sent by their "caring" team, only a bill. Hospice of Michigan sent a beautiful card signed by their entire team. High turnover, lack of leadership is evident, accounting errors... However I must say some great people work there, but they won't stay because they are better than the leaders at Clark. They will go to work for the competition. Do your research before committing to Clark. There are many great communities in Grand Rapids - It's not what it used to be.
Used to Awesome
reviewed on: 07/18/2018 by Sandy SmithAs a family member I am beyond disappointed with Clark Retirement from the executive management to poor care and services. This community lacks the empathy, insight and simple honesty that would make this an awesome place. The staff turnover is incredibly high, numerous high level leadership people have left due to dishonesty, poor communication and lack of organization of the community. The food services has been an ongoing issue since 2016, and remains an issue today. The billing and finance staff are some of the rudest individuals. Despite the fact that myself and many family members have filed numerous complaints with the Executive Director, VP of Operations and President Clark continues on a downward spiral.
